The MS & Well Being class is a gentle mobility class for a range of people living with either MS or age/disability related mobility issues. The class mainly focuses on maintaining and improving an individuals range of movement, flexibility, posture. stability and motor skills and is not intended to be fast paced or energetic. The class is mainly performed seated with the option to stand or remain seated for the leg section. Whilst the principles remain the same, the class content can vary from week to week and include work with exercise bands, soft balls, dumbbells and sometimes large fitness balls. The class ends with a five minute relaxation section to help relieve tension and focus the mind.
It is hoped with regular attendance to see either maintenance or improvement in posture, range of movement, co-ordination and flexibility – all beneficial to an independent daily life. Over time you should start to feel and see the physical benefits of regular exercise whilst also making new friends in a safe and comfortable environment.
Please bring water and a towel with you and ensure that clothing is appropriate and comfortable and, where appropriate, any aids you may need to enable you to perform any standing work should you wish.
All participants are required to complete a brief PARQ (Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire) to confirm that there are no medical reasons why they cannot safely take part in this and other classes before beginning.
As this is a disciplined class, where a client is supported by an enabler, carer or PA, the person supporting is required to remain with their client throughout to ensure they are able to follow any instructions given, access any required equipment as instructed and be able to take on refreshments as required, ensuring the client is able to work as independently and safely as possible throughout the class.
